Queen of Roses 2013 / Царица Роза 2013

I am very proud to originate from the Rose Valley in Bulgaria – it’s a region where the famous Rosa Damascena grows. Its oil is widely used in the cosmetic industry and I am sure if you look for the ingredients of the cosmetic products you have at home, you will find at least one that has it as a component.

Kazanlak, my hometown, is hosting the Rose Festival every year in the end of May-beginning of June. (This year’s biggest celebrations will take place on June 2nd) The cultural program starts with electing the Queen of Roses – the most beautiful girl in the town. The only condition is to be currently graduating from high school and be very charming.

The evening gowns that the girls wear are actually their prom dresses so we get to know more about their own style as well. Here are some photos from this year’s contest. I was pleasantly surprised as this year’s choice was my own choice too.
